Van Halen is the eponymous debut album by American hard rock band Van Halen, released in 1978.

In 2003, the album was ranked number 415 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
The album cover was shot at the Whisky a Go Go.

The album cover was shot at the Whisky a Go Go. In a 2009 interview, Eddie Van Halen said the guitar on the cover was his first, a 12-string purchased from "a Radio Shack-type of store in Pasadena" that he modified and dubbed "Frankenstein".
In 2006, a cover of "You Really Got Me" based on Van Halen's cover appeared as a playable song in the music video game Guitar Hero II.
