Upper Peru

Upper Peru was the region in the Viceroyalty of Peru and, after 1776, the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata comprising the Governments of Potosí, La Paz, Cochabamba, Los Chiquitos, Moxos and Charcas (since renamed Sucre). It was governed by the Audiencia of Charcas.
Following independence, the country was renamed Bolivia in honour of Simón Bolívar.
