The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is also one of the few Division III programs that has a Civil War style cannon which is fired whenever the UW-Warhawk football team scores a touchdown. The cannon is also fired at the conclusion of the National Anthem, and at the end of the game. The cannon belongs to and is operated by Mike Lesko, a former student of UW-Whitewater also known as "The Cannon Man". The replica Confederate Mountain Rifle is entering its 14 year of service to UW-W without missing any home games in that 14 years. Students are encouraged to come and join the cannon crew to fire it at the home games.
