It was established by upgrading the former Punjab Agricultural College and Research Institute in 1961.Recently in 2011 the university has launched "golden jubilee ceremony" on completing its 50 years of excellence in the field of agriculture and research.

The beautiful University campus over an area of 1,950 acres on both angles represents history and the present era. The lush green new campus which is conglomeration of monolithic blocks built in modern style. The old campus a reminiscent of traditional Muslim architecture reminds of the Agriculture College, it now houses the Faculty of Sciences.
The University campus is located in the center of the city at a distance of 12km. North-East of the Faisalabad International Airport, about 2km. South-West of the Faisalabad General Bus Stand and about 2km. North-West of the Faisalabad Railway Station and Government Transport Bus Stand.

The university's faculty comprises more than 500 teachers of whom 224 hold Ph.D. degrees mainly from foreign universities.

It offers the degree of B.Sc. (Hons.) Animal Husbandry at the graduate level and supporting courses for students of D.V.M and B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture. Division of Education and Extension

Prof. Dr. Tanveer AHMAD is the Director of the Division of Education and Extrension. The division consists of the Departments of Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Education, Continuing Education (Short Courses), Rural Home Economics, Agricultural Information Centre(AIC), Junior Laboratory School, Laboratory High School for Girls, and Laboratory High School for Boys.

The Division offers under-graduate and graduate level courses (M.Sc., M.Sc.(Hons), PhD) in Agricultural Extension, and Home Economics (Food and Nutrition, Clothing and Textile, Fine Arts) It manages short term courses offered by departments of the university. The division organises in-service training courses for personnel from the Agriculture, Education,Forestry, Livestock, and other governmental and non-government organizations responsible for agricultural and educational development. The division publishes a journal (Zarii Diagest), leaflets,and bulletins for the guidance and education of the farmers and general public.

College of Agriculture, D.G. Khan

The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, has established sub-campuses at three locations viz Depalpur, Toba Tek Singh and Dera Gazi Khan.
