 level for men and there is no domestic professional league, the team does not have as much experience as most other international teams.

The team attempts to qualify for international competitions but often comes up short. It has had its best success qualifying for the Pan American Games

. In the 1932 Olympic Games, the team finished third in a field of three. In the 1984 Olympic Games, the team — invited automatically as the host nation — finished last. In 1996, again in the tournament as hosts, the Americans finished last again, in a field of 12.
