. One theory is that the Plague forced the movement of the village to its present location and so only those who were well could make the walk to the church.

A school was founded in 1726 on the current site of Dale House but later moved to a larger building further through the village. The Cape family and many local families helped to fund the new building, which closed in 1990 and had passed into the hands of the Church Commissioners
