History

Beginning in 2005, the collegiate side of UCLA Women's Rugby was formed and began competing in the collegiate division of the Southern California Women’s Rugby Union. In their first year as a collegiate team, the Bruin Rangers won the Division II Championships in the Southern California territory and traveled to Santa Cruz for Nationals. They now compete in Division I.

In 2008, the Bruin Rangers went undefeated in league games and won the Southern California Division I Championships. Their success brought them their first appearance at the Division I level of the National Collegiate Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 2009, the team made their second appearance at the Division I level of the National Collegiate Championships. UCLA Women's Rugby is currently ranked 13th in the nation.

Prom Dress Rugby

Prom Dress Rugby is an annual match featuring the Bruin Rangers in prom dresses. The event intends to raise funds for the team and promote awareness of women’s rugby as an emerging NCAA sport. Past Prom Dress Rugby events have attracted crowds over 200 people and have featured the team dancing Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” at half time.
