Twisted: The Game Show is a game that was released on June 27, 1994 exclusively for the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer game console. The game was one of the earlier party games designed in the form of a fictional game show. The host Twink Fizzdale directs you through the hilarious and fun game play. You and up to three friends battle your way to the top of the Helix shaped game board by choosing one of six in game contestants, rolling the Cyber-die, and taking on any of the eight different mini games. The first on to the top wins a trip to reality.

Contestants

Wormington is a junk salesman that will sell you the shirt off your own back. He is seen in the game with his dog Otis. During the commercial break one of the advertisements is for Wormington’s junk yard where his slogan is “Come on down to Wormingtons where service is a slogan.”

Madame Elaine is a Fortune teller that enjoys mind reading, channeling, and vodka. Her slogan “Call me at 1 900 Elaine I can read your mind and you should be ashamed.”

Johnny Pow is a cool looking Asian man that thinks he is a ledged. He was abandon in the theater when he was younger and was raised by ushers. His slogan “I’m cool daddy oh.”

Humble Howard is a religious man that will save your soul and take your money. He sees him self as a financial planner for god. His slogan “Eternal security in the kingdom of Humble Howard operators are standing by.”

Major Steel is a military woman that is the star of a fitness show called War Crimes Workout. She will spend most of the game pretending to work out and is clearly obsessed with fitness. Her slogan “You’ll get fit if it kills ya.”

Uncle Fez is a kind friend to many political and religious heads. He also travels the world spreading tooth decay. Uncle Fez is the only contestant in the game in the nonhuman form and looks like a pez dispenser. His slogan “Give mez a chance. What do you say?”

Game Board

The game board is a vertical twisted helix consisting of a 90 space climb to the winner’s platform at the top. The board consists of mostly yellow challenge squares. However, on your race to the top you will encounter three types of special spaces:

The Bonus Square: a green space with an orange square in the middle.


The Bozo Square: a red space with a yellow triangle in the middle.


The Wheel of Torture: a purple space with a yellow circle in the middle.


If you land on the bonus square you get to roll again however land on the bozo square and your turn is over in addition to being skipped the next turn. Land on the wheel of torture and you are taken to a spinning wheel with 3 rows of shapes moving in opposite directions. In order to get off the wheel you must stop it when the 3 rows match like shapes. You will remain on the wheel until you can match the shapes however they spin slower and slower every turn.

Cyber-die

To move up the board you must roll the Cyber-die a screen consisting of three rows and nine columns. Each row has the numbers 0,1,2 in order. Row one starting with 0, row two starting with 1, and row three starting with 2. A selector bounces back and forth in each row when you stop the die it adds the 3 rows together, the lowest number being zero largest number being six.

The Matrix

When you land on a challenge square you are taken to the matrix screen. The matrix is a screen with three columns and three rows. A randomly chosen contestant will choose a row from the matrix then you will choose a column and the intersecting space is the one chosen for you. The spaces are different every time and include one of the mini games or one of the following three surprises:

Roll again: Give you another crack at the Cyber-die


Switcheroo: You and the randomly selected contestant switch places on the game board


Bomb: Ends your turn

Mini Games

If you don’t get one of the options listed above then you are going to play a mini game or challenge. If you complete the game before time runs out then your turn continues you roll the die and do it all over again.

Trivia: There are six topics to trivia Science and Technology, History, Sports and Recreation, Arts and Entertainment, Geography and Travel, and Pop Culture. The question difficulty is based on the skill level you choose after selecting your contestant at the beginning. Each round of trivia you do will add a question that must be answered the next time to win.

Twin Peeks: There are 12 doors or windows on the screen. Open them to reveal a picture and find it matching pair before time runs out.

Sound Bites: This is a matching game with pictures of former presidents. There are 12 total squares. When you select one a sound is played, you have to then find the space with the identical sound you match them before time runs out.

Face Lift Salon: Faces on the screen are split into three rows you can slide side to side. The object is to align the rows to make the three complete side by side faces. There are tons of combinations but only one is correct. There are 200 different faces the game can choose from and adjusts the difficulty based on how you did the previous time.
Zapper: 12 small TV screens are displaying a black and white video suddenly one of them will display a color commercial. Move to the courser to it and zap it to change back to the video. You must prevent the commercial from getting more than five seconds of air time with in 30 seconds to win. At some point for a very short time the 3DO logo will appear on one of the screens, if you can zap it you win automatically.

Departure Lounge: An image will appear on the screen press A and the image is cut into nine tiles and mixed with a different image. Select the tile and press A to rotate each tile to rebuild the original picture before time runs out.

Mystery Matinee: A full black and white video is played the only problem being it’s all scrambled to different parts of the screen. Unscramble the video before time expires to win the game. The amount of pieces to unscramble depends on the difficulty and how well you did last time.

Supermarket Highrise: An elevator door will open and you will see 12 items you might find in a grocery store. The door will close in a few seconds after that you will see three items two of them were not on the shelf select the item that was.
