In the village the population was spread out with 23.3% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 36.7% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 91.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.6 males.

Tuckahoe marble

 in Washington, DC. Tuckahoe marble was discovered near the Bronx River, and is part of the Inwood Formation. It was used for gravestone markers in many cemeteries in the 19th century and the early 20th century until the quarry closed in 1930.

Tuckahoe renaissance


Over the past decade or so, Tuckahoe has enjoyed an influx of investor capital, which has resulted in the redevelopment of many of its former commercial and industrial areas. Several previous and current projects include: the conversion of a former Revlon factory to the high-end Rivervue Apartment Complex (located on the corner of Lake Avenue and Main Street), the new construction of residential, retail and medical office properties along the Main Street corridor, the shuttering of two gas stations, the updated and refurbished Tuckahoe train station

 (which includes a recently opened Starbucks), and the restored town hall which lives on as the Generoso Pope Foundation. Additional residential construction is occurring at the former site of Westcon on Main Street, and additional construction/redevelopment is expected in the downtown section of Crestwood as well.

Houses of worship


Tuckahoe is home to Immaculate Conception Church (53 Winter Hill Road) and Church of the Assumption (100 Pleasant Avenue), both of which are Roman Catholic, and can be seen below.
The village is home of the New York Japanese Church, an evangelical Protestant church ministering to the Japanese community.

Tuckahoe also houses two African-American churches: Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal, 6 Van Duzen Place and Shiloh Baptist Church 15 Marbledale Road.
