Influences on Fiction
In the popular anime series Naruto, based on the manga, a character called Tsunade is the Hokage to the village where Naruto lives. Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru appear as three legendary ninja known as the Sannin. Naruto's Tsunade can summon slugs into battle, up to and including Kaiju-sized monsters. This summoning ability is predicated on Tsunade having established a blood-contract with all species of slug-kind. Jiraiya and Orochimaru in the Anime can also summon toads and snakes (respectively), and Orochimaru is also capable of transforming into a snake.
