History

The western portion of Paraná was only recently colonized, and colonization parties only arrived in Toledo in 1946. The city was officially founded on November 14, 1951, when it was split from the city of Foz do Iguaçu

Festivals

Farming and agriculture is important to the city, and a popular event for citizens and tourists alike is the Annual Pork Roasting Festival (Festa Nacional do Porco no Rolete). Pigs, no larger than 40 pounds are cooked by rotisserie. More than forty-thousand people attend the festival, which takes place in September.
