He was appointed associate judge of the Ohio Court of Appeals, in which capacity he served until his resignation in 1916.
He served as delegate to the Democratic National Conventions at San Francisco in 1920 and at New York in 1924.
He moved to Washington, D.C.

He died in New York City, July 5, 1943.
