Mounts was a member and an officer of many professional and honorary societies since 1969. He participated in numerous national and international scientific meetings, technical conferences, and workshops over the past 20 years. Government regulatory and action agencies routinely sought his opinion and advice on food and agribusiness. He received numerous national and international awards and honors including the 1985 La Medaille Chevreul from L'Association Francaise pour l'Etude des Corps Gras, the 1991 Outstanding Scientist of the Year for Agricultural Research Service and the 1997 A. Richard Baldwin Distinguished Service Award from the American Oil Chemists Society.

It is for his devotion to country in military and civilian service, his dedication to furtherance of education and his belief in civic duty that Mr. Mounts is honored with the T.L. Mounts Lectureship at Bradley University
