Whitnall's critically acclaimed 2005 theatre play 'The Sociable Plover' was made into a feature film by Poisson Rouge Pictures and Solution Films (re-titled as 'The Hide') which received its UK premiere on Film4 in February 2009. Following its screen release at the ICA Cinema, London, 'The Hide' received its DVD release in January 2010. Whitnall has recently been nominated for this work in the Writer's Guild Of Great Britain Awards 2010 'Best First Feature Length Screenplay' category.

Whitnall's most recent stage-play 'Morecambe' - an original and affectionate tribute to the late, great Eric Morecambe - opened to dazzling reviews and won a Fringe First Award at the 2009 Edinburgh Festival. The show opened at London's Duchess Theatre the following December to equal acclaim and went on to tour the UK through 2010. (www.morecambetheplay.com) The piece was nominated in two separate categories in the prestigious 2010 Laurence Olivier Awards, actually going on to win top honours for 'Best Entertainment'.

He lives in Richmond, London with his partner, Anna Murphy, with whom he has a production company, Feather Productions Ltd.
