Harvest of Love

Harvest of Love began when current principal Vigil decided to gather the Social Studies department together to raise food. Each fall Doherty raises money for the local Care and Share food bank. In the 2007-2008 school year Doherty raised over $46,000 for the food bank. In 2008-2009 Doherty raised over $49,000 to help the hungry of southern Colorado. That first year the school took two full pickup trucks to the food bank. In 2008-2009 a fully loaded eighteen-wheel semi-truck was needed to carry the food to Care and Share. As a gift of Doherty students, staff, parents and community, Care and Share received a check in the amount of $48,265 for Thanksgiving 2009, and food donations equaled 14,416 pounds which included 186 turkeys.
