Encyclopedia
The Spook's Destiny is the eighth book in The Wardstone Chronicles (The Last Apprentice in America), released in June 2011. In the U.S. it is titled The Last Apprentice: Rage of the Fallen.

Main Plot

The Spook, Tom and Alice have travelled to Ireland, fleeing from the war in the County. There, Tom must tackle a group of evil mages who are desperate to rid their land of the Spook and his apprentice, and to increase their own dark powers.

His dangerous mission against the mages leads Tom to the Destiny Blade - a sword with a dark side, and a thirst for blood... The only thing protecting Tom and Alice until now has been the fragile blood jar - but will this new weapon give Tom a fighting chance against the Fiend in combat?

If he's to survive, he'll need training, and only one person can help - Grimalkin, the witch assassin. The dark against the dark...
In the end, one shall fall, the other will rise above their greatest desires.

Characters

Thomas Ward The seventh son of a seventh son, he is also the son of Lamia, meaning that along with his ability to see things other can't and being immune to some dark powers such as a witches long-sniffing, he also has inherited powers from his mother, one of which is the ability to slow down and stop time. He has a destiny to either save the world or damn it.

Alice Deane Revealed in the 5th book to be the daughter of Bony Lizzie and the Fiend, she is a firm friend of Tom; their friendship in fact keeping her from going over to the dark. According to Thomas' Mam, she could be the most powerful malevolent or benign witch ever.

John Gregory Also known as the Spook. A seventh son of a seventh son, he has kept the forces of the dark at bay for many years in the County. He has trained many apprentices, though precious few are any good, Tom will be his last.

Grimalkin The Malkin clan enforcer, she swore to destroy the Fiend for killing her son so she allied herself with the Tom in his quest to imprison him. She teaches him to fight and learn to use his inherited powers.
