. It was named due to the shortlived Kiandra goldrush, which generated large amounts of gold-based traffic through the region.

The Age publishes on Fridays. The newspaper previously published twice a week, and prior to that it was published three times a week. The paper currently publishes in 32 to 48 page editions.

It has two full time journalists, one part time journalist and an editor off site. Its weekly coverage includes politics, the courts, council, sport, community, health, environment, police and the emergency services.

The editor as of May 2011 is Andrew Benson.
