It claims to be Ireland’s longest established barbershop chorus since it was formed in 1980. It has been a member of the Irish Association of Barbershop Singers ever since the I.A.B.S association was inaugurated in 1988. The Polyphonics have been crowned National Male Chorus Champions in the National Barbershop Convention on 10 occasions, most recently in 2009. They also won the National Light Jazz and Popular Music Competition in the Cork International Choral Festival

In recent years the choir have performed at The Maritime Festival in Dublin, Sproai Festival Waterford, and The Cork International Choral Festival.
