The Law of One
Encyclopedia
The Law of One is a series of five philosophical monographs written between 1982 and 1998 by L/L Research. The series presents commentary and transcripts of a dialogue between a "Questioner" and an extra-terrestrial

was then recorded and transcribed by James McCarthy to produce the five books.

What emerged from these dialogues was an elaborate philosophy called "The Law of One" presenting the basic principle that "All is One" or that all things are ultimately the same thing. The five books explore this premise in relation to many aspects of life including philosophy, religion, spirituality, cosmology, anthropology, history, physics, biology, geology, and the paranormal.

Philosophy

The Law of One articulates a nondualistic
Nondualism
Nondualism is a term used to denote affinity, or unity, rather than duality or separateness or multiplicity. In reference to the universe it may be used to denote the idea that things appear distinct while not being separate. The term "nondual" can refer to a belief, condition, theory, practice,...

, pantheistic philosophy according to which all things are The Creator
Creator deity
A creator deity is a deity responsible for the creation of the world . In monotheism, the single God is often also the creator deity, while polytheistic traditions may or may not have creator deities...

.

Cosmology

According to The Law of One, the universe
Universe
The Universe is commonly defined as the totality of everything that exists, including all matter and energy, the planets, stars, galaxies, and the contents of intergalactic space. Definitions and usage vary and similar terms include the cosmos, the world and nature...

is created by the Infinite Creator

, who created the universe out of itself. The Infinite Creator became the universe through a process called "distortion" whereby the Infinite Creator "distorts" itself into the various things that exist. The process occurred one distortion at a time, in a specific order.

The first distortion created by the Infinite Creator is called "Free Will", the second "Love", and the third "Light". All other things come from this trinity of distortions through a complex set of further distortions, giving rise to an infinite number of universes, including our universe. After the fashion of a hologram or a fractal, each of the parts of the creation is like the whole.

Logos

Each star or planet is a creation of an intelligence called a Logos. Each Logos creates many sub-Logoi. An example of a sub-Logos is our sun. The sub-Logoi, in turn, create sub-sub-Logoi. Human beings are examples of sub-sub-Logoi. Each Logos, sub-Logos, and sub-sub-Logos is a microcosm

 of the Creator.

Densities

The Logoi create a progression through seven levels of spiritual evolution, called "densities."
  1. The first density is the density of dead matter.
  2. The second density is the density of organic life: plants, animals, bacteria, etc.
  3. The third density is the density which human beings inhabit. It is the density of self-awareness.
  4. The fourth density, like all subsequent densities, is inhabited by mind/body/spirit complexes of a higher level of spiritual evolution than human beings. The fourth density is the density of love.
  5. The fifth density is the density of light or wisdom.
  6. The sixth density is the density of unity.
  7. The seventh density is the gateway density, the last density before mind/body/spirit complexes merge back into the Creator.
  8. The eighth density is the beginning of the next octave.

Mind/body/spirit complex

Ra claims that humans are complexes
Complex
A complex is a whole that comprehends a number of intricate parts, especially one with interconnected or mutually related parts; for example, a complex of buildings.Complex may refer to:-Biology:...

 composed of a mind
Mind
The concept of mind is understood in many different ways by many different traditions, ranging from panpsychism and animism to traditional and organized religious views, as well as secular and materialist philosophies. Most agree that minds are constituted by conscious experience and intelligent...

, a body

With regard to living things, a body is the physical body of an individual. "Body" often is used in connection with appearance, health issues and death...

, and a spirit
Spirit
The English word spirit has many differing meanings and connotations, most of them relating to a non-corporeal substance contrasted with the material body. The spirit of a living thing usually refers to or explains its consciousness. The notions of a person's "spirit" and "soul" often also overlap,...

, and therefore would refer to individual humans as a "mind/body/spirit complex". Ra believed that humans, along with the earth, are going through a process called harvest.

Extraterrestrial Life

Ra explained that there are many other living beings in the universe that are similar to humans but differ in body, intelligence, culture, and spiritual evolution
Spiritual evolution
Spiritual evolution is the philosophical, theological, esoteric or spiritual idea that nature and human beings and/or human culture evolve, extending from the established cosmological pattern or ascent, or in accordance with certain pre-established potentials...

. These beings, like humans, are referred to as mind/body/spirit complexes.

Wanderers

Many individuals, called wanderers, have at this time incarnated on Earth from higher densities in order to aid in the process of harvest.

Spirituality

Ra claimed that all mind/body/spirit complexes, upon being formed in third density, progress upward through the densities as they evolve spiritually, until they become one with the Creator at the end of seventh density. This evolution is accomplished in a series of incarnations
Reincarnation
Reincarnation best describes the concept where the soul or spirit, after the death of the body, is believed to return to live in a new human body, or, in some traditions, either as a human being, animal or plant...

.

In order to progress from third density to fourth density, beings must make a choice between service to others or service to self: or, in ordinary language, between altruism
Altruism
Altruism is a concern for the welfare of others. It is a traditional virtue in many cultures, and a core aspect of various religious traditions, though the concept of 'others' toward whom concern should be directed can vary among cultures and religions. Altruism is the opposite of...

Selfishness
Selfishness denotes an excessive or exclusive concern with oneself, and as such it exceeds mere self interest or self concern. Insofar as a decision maker knowingly burdens or harms others for personal gain, the decision is selfish. In contrast, self-interest is more general...

. The purpose of third density is to make this choice.

Energy Centers

As beings evolve, they progressively balance and unblock their "energy centers" which directly correspond to the chakras. The Law of One contains an extensive discussion of the chakras.

The Law of One uses nonconventional terminology for the chakras. The chakras are called "energy centers," and their individual names are as follows:
  1. Muladhara
    Muladhara
Muladhara is one of the seven primary chakras according to Hindu tantrism. It may be represented by the color red, although its root square form is usually yellow.-Location:...

  2. Svadhisthana is called orange-ray.
  3. Manipura
    Manipura
Manipura , called "city of jewels", is the third primary chakra according to Hindu tradition.-Location:Manipura is located at the spine directly behind either the navel or the solar plexus, depending on the system, while its kshetram or superficial activation point is located directly on the navel...

     is called yellow-ray.
  4. Anahata
    Anahata

     is called green-ray.
  5. Vishuddhi is called blue-ray.
  6. Ajna
    Ajna
Ajna is the sixth primary chakra according to Hindu tradition.-Location:The Ajna chakra is positioned in the brain, directly behind the eyebrow centre, while its ksehtram or superficial activation site is at the eyebrow region, in the position of the 'third eye'.-Appearance:Ajna is white in...

     is called indigo-ray.
  7. Sahasrara
    Sahasrara
Sahasrara/ Sahastrara is the seventh primary chakra according to Hindu tradition.-Location:Sahasrara is either located at the top of the head in that one area, or a little way above it .-Appearance:Sahasrara is described with 1,000 multi-coloured petals which are arranged in 20 layers each of them...

     is called violet-ray.

Harvest

Ra explains that humans and the earth are undergoing a transition from third density to fourth density. This transition is said to necessitate a process called "harvest".

Polarity

An important concept that is widely discussed is that of polarity, which is a framework that is used to discuss moral
Morality
Morality is the differentiation among intentions, decisions, and actions between those that are good and bad . A moral code is a system of morality and a moral is any one practice or teaching within a moral code...

choices. Ra explains that there are two polarities: service to self, and service to others. These two polarities approximately relate to the everyday concepts known as evil and good, or selfishness
Selfishness
Selfishness denotes an excessive or exclusive concern with oneself, and as such it exceeds mere self interest or self concern. Insofar as a decision maker knowingly burdens or harms others for personal gain, the decision is selfish. In contrast, self-interest is more general...

.

Service to Others

Ra describes "Service to Others" in terms of an energy center configuration where the green-ray center radiates outward to other beings. This results in compassion, love feelings, and acts of service toward others.

Service to Self

Ra describes "Service to Self" in terms of an energy center configuration where the green-ray center is pointed mainly inward, correlating with the mind/body/spirit complex mostly feeling love for itself with little love or compassion for others. These feelings lead to self-serving intentions and actions.

Geology

Ra views the Earth as a living being that has a mind, free will, and grows over time both physically and spiritually
Spirituality
Spirituality can refer to an ultimate or an alleged immaterial reality; an inner path enabling a person to discover the essence of his/her being; or the “deepest values and meanings by which people live.” Spiritual practices, including meditation, prayer and contemplation, are intended to develop...

. Ra explains that the Earth is currently in the process of changing from third density to fourth density.
