The Diabetes Duo: Captain Glucose and Meter Boy are two animated and self-proclaimed diabetes superheroes whose mission, according to their website http://www.captainglucoseandmeterboy.com is to educate, enlighten, and entertain everyone who has diabetes. They have recently added a female character to their diabetes team. Her name is Dee Dee and is also known as "D-Girl" a Type 1 diabetic who wears an insulin pump and helps them in their mission. Their arch enemy is a character called "The Blood Sugar Maniac" who has appeared in two of their PSA's.
The Diabetes Duo characters was created by two professional television actors, Bill Kirchenbauer
and Brad Slaight
. Bill has Type 2 diabetes and Brad has Type 1. Kirchenbauer provides the voice of Captain Glucose and Slaight is the voice of Meter Boy. Captain Glucose and Meter Boy: The Diabetes Duo's motto is "Be your own diabetes superhero" which has been used in a number of the short animated Public Service Announcements. Kirchenbauer and Slaight have made appearances at diabetes events including the American Diabetes Association
