It publishes on a bi-monthly schedule during the academic school year and also prints one summer issue with the intent of sending it to incoming students. It is an independent, not-for-profit newspaper financed by a student levy and advertising revenue.

The Mitre acted as an outlet for student opinion and record of student life before The Campus. The Mitre first appeared in June 1893 and continues today as a student literary magazine.
