As of October 2007 only Esteghlal Ahvaz F.C. are allowed to use the Takhti Stadium Foolad and Shahin Ahvaz have been asked to look for new home stadiums.

History

This stadium has been the home of Esteghlal Ahvaz and Foolad when they play in IPL because when Foolad was relegated in 2007 they were not allowed to play all the matches in this stadium.

Problems

Takhti stadium’s field is 1.5 meters (5 ft) below sea level and this means that when there is a heavy rain run-away water flows through the stadium. This meant that much of the stadium needed to be renovated.

Renovation

In 2005 it was closed down for one season, so that parts of the stadium could be renovated. A number of plastics seats were installed, and a new pitch was planted. The project was finished very late, despite the scale of the renovation plan being reduced.
