TVM broadcasts a mix of news, sport, entertainment, magazine programming and children's programmes. It is funded through a government grant and commercial advertising. The majority of programmes broadcast on TVM are produced externally of PBS. PBS publishes details of the types of programmes it wishes to broadcast on TVM and production companies provide PBS with a detailed report of their proposal for the programme.

 titles. Sunday evenings are dedicated to classic British comedy, and English language films are shown on Saturday evenings.

The English language feed of EuroNews

 is also broadcast daily.

In October 2011, PBS announced another overhaul of the TVM brand, to mark 50 years since the establishment of the Malta Television Service in 2012. The new branding pays homage to previous TVM identities, and makes use of the Maltese cross, which features heavily in the new L-Aħbarijiet title sequence.

A new programme schedule was announced, including an increased number of news bulletins and a new current affairs-led breakfast show.

News

TVM's news programming is the most popular on the islands and is the only TV news not provided by a political party. "L-Aħbarijiet TVM" is broadcast nightly at 8pm as well as various short updates throughout the day. There is also a sign language version and "TVM News", a summary of news in English, both broadcast once daily.

It has been given the honour of the local TV station of the year.

In Ocotber 2011 L-Aħbarijiet and was given a makeover in line with the rest of TVM, marking TVM's 50th birthday.

The TVM Newsroom also provides news bulletins during the breakfast "TVAM" programme.

TVM also carries bulletins from EuroNews in English, and in the past has carried bulletins from Britain's ITN.

The TVM website forms part of the recently revamped PBS website, www.pbs.com.mt. The PBS website carries schedules for TVM and PBS radio stations, Magic 91.7 and Radio Malta 93.7 FM. Unfortunately most of the links on the website are dead.

Breakfast Television

'TVAM' is TVM's breakfast programme, presented by veteran TV Presenter Claudette Pace. News bulletins are broadcast as part of TVAM, provided by the TVM Newsroom.

Early Evenings

Family entertainment is broadcast most weeknights. Highlights include game shows 'Kwizzun' and 'Puree' presented by Carlo Borg Bonnaci and Ronald Briffa (respectively). These are followed at 2000 by the main evening news bulletin.

Primetime

Sunday - Friday, L-Ahbarijiet is followed by drama and comedy such as Deceduti, Min Imissu, Salib it-Toroq, Bijografiji and D.R.E.A.M.S. On Saturday, discussion programme "disset" follows the news.

Late Evening

After the 2145 news, the schedule is dominated by information and discussion programmes. "Bondi+" is shown Tuesdays and Thursdays, Qalbinnies on Mondays and Lenti on Wednesdays. These are followed by lifestyle at 22.45, including motoring programme "PaqPaq". The night's programmes conclude with a final news bulletin in English at 2315.

Weekdays

Films in the English language are shown on Saturday evenings. Relgious programming features on Sunday mornings. Classic British comedy is shown before the 2000 News.
