History

Since August 2005, St Margaret's is the only remaining school in the North of Scotland that caters exclusively to girls' education in primary and secondary departments for girls aged 5–18. There is also a nursery department catering for girls and boys aged 3–5.

, it was founded in 1846 and has been open for over 150 years. Originally it offered boarding

Both the pupils and teachers are put into houses. There are three houses named after local castles: Crathes (red), Dunnottar (green) and Kildrummy (blue). This year Crathes won the junior house cup and house shield.

Pupils of the school wear the uniform of a grey kilt or skirt with a yellow blouse in summer or a blue shirt in winter. The uniform also includes a noticeable blazer and a sports uniform.

St Margaret's is well known for excellence in academics, consistently performing highly in Scottish league tables. It also has many debating, music, drama and art successes. Sport is a large part of the school, with all pupils encouraged to take part in sports. In the past, many pupils have gone on to achieve success at national levels.
