The Southern Buh, Bug, or Boh River (Pivdennyi Buh; , Yuzhny Bug; ancient Greek: Hypanis) is entirely located in Ukraine. It rises in the west, in the Podolian uplands, about 145 km from the Polish border, and flows southeasterly into the Black Sea through the southern steppe.

The Southern Buh, Bug, or Boh River (Pivdennyi Buh; , Yuzhny Bug; ancient Greek: Hypanis) is entirely located in Ukraine. It rises in the west, in the Podolian uplands, about 145 km from the Polish border, and flows southeasterly into the Black Sea through the southern steppe. It is 806 km long and drains 63,700 kmē.
Its Roman name could be translated as "angle", as nowadays Bug. During the Big Migrations Era the river Bug was an important obstacle to all the migrating tribes, which stopped after in the laterly city of Chisinau, i.e. Kishinev, nowadays in the Republic of Moldova> This is why the name of Chishineu originally translates as "The camp".
Major cities on the Bug banks: Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, Pervomaisk, Mykolaiv.
