South Nottingham College was founded in September 1970 on the site of the old Lutterell Comprehensive School on Greythorn Drive West Bridgford.
The College employs over around 370 full-time staff spread over six main centres: the West Bridgford Centre is home to the majority of course areas, the Charnwood Centre in Clifton houses Art & Design, Media, Photography and Sport and there are smaller centres offering adult education and IT programmes in Nottingham City Centre, Bingham and Clifton. Its newest centre in Ruddington offers automotive training.
Today it is one of the largest education and training providers in Nottinghamshire enrolling up to 20,000 full and part-time students on up to 1000 courses each year. Courses range from level 1 Entry and Foundation programmes to HNDs and Foundation Degrees. The College still has a strong offer within the part-time Adult Education market and an expanding portfolio of employer training programmes.
In May 2011 the proposed merger between South Nottingham College and Castle College Nottingham received approval from John Hayes, Minister for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning. The anticipated merger date is expected to be between 1 July and 1 August 2011.
The merger will make South Nottingham College the largest college in the county allowing more exciting opportunities for the people of Nottinghamshire.
