In 2007–08, South Louisiana Community College had 2,944 students enrolled (1,954 full-time equivalent).

The school has a tighter focus on specific areas of study than most colleges its size. South Louisiana Community College is known for its programs in education and teaching, engineering technician, and liberal arts.

Schools of Choice

Lafayette Parish School System (LPSS) added a "School of Choice" called the Early College Academy in 2008, which gives high school students (grades 9-12) a chance to graduate with a high school diploma as well as a two-year Associates degree in the field of their choice. It is the only school of its kind in the state of Louisiana.
