South Hills High School is part of the [[Covina-Valley Unified School District]]. South Hills opened in the fall of 1964, with incoming freshmen, as well as sophomore and junior transfers from Covina and Northview high schools. Its first graduating class was in June, 1966. ==Demographics== During the 2007-2008 school year, there were 2,113 students. The school has grown tremendously in the last decade and has had problems with crowding in recent years. By comparison, there were 1,306 students during the 1993-1994 school year. As of the 2006-2007 school year, there are three [[Advanced Placement|AP]] courses available at South Hills that are not available at other schools in the Covina-Valley Unified School District: AP French, AP Computer Science, and AP World History. SHHS does not weigh its GPAs for honors and AP courses. Because of this, anyone with a 4.0 GPA graduates as a valedictorian. For instance, there were six valedictorians in the class of 2006, and there were 11 valedictorian candidates in the class of 2007. There were a record eighteen valedictorians in the class of 2010. '''College Destinations''' South Hills High graduates go on to a wide variety of colleges and universities throughout California and the nation. Approximately 12% each go to a [[California State University]] or a [[University of California]] campus. ==Athletics== South Hills competes in the [[California Interscholastic Federation|CIF]] [[CIF Southern Section|Southern Section]]: Sierra League with [[Ayala High School|Ayala (Chino Hills, CA)]], [[Charter Oak High School|Charter Oak (Covina, CA)]], [[Chino Hills High School|Chino Hills]], [[Claremont High School (Claremont, California)|Claremont]], and [[St. Lucy's Priory High School|St. Lucy's]]. The arch-rivals of the South Hills athletic teams have changed throughout the years as the leagues they have played in have changed. While in the Valle Vista League, the rivals were [[Northview High School (Covina, California)|Northview]] and [[Covina High School|Covina]]. While in the San Antonio League, the rivalry was with [[West Covina High School]]. Since the change to the Sierra League in 2010, the rivalry is with [[Charter Oak High School|Charter Oak]]. The annual football game between West Covina and South Hills was known as "The Kings of Cameron" game due to both schools being located on Cameron Avenue. Notably, the South Hills varsity football team has won the Division VII CIF Southern Section championship 4 out of the 5 years before CIF State was reinstated. In 1981 South Hills wrestling won both the CIF state title and the CIF-SS title. The varsity wrestling team also won CIF championships in 2003 (when they defeated rival West Covina High School for the Division III championship), in 2008, and in 2009. The Husky baseball team won the CIF-SS Div. III title in 2009. The Husky softball team won CIF-SS championships during the 1982 and 1997 season.
