Simon and his sister Tegan have a mysterious plot going on after a conversation they had ending with one of them saying "We stay here until mum says otherwise." Simon has revealed that he blames Donna for the breakup of their family.

Simon believed Donna wanted all of her father's attention so told him about their mum's affairs.

Reconnecting with Donna


Simon believed Donna wanted all of her father's attention so told him about their mum's affairs. So much did he blame Donna that he was ready to leave Elle's house without saying goodbye to either Donna or Tegan.
When Simon met Donna's boyfriend Ringo Brown

 he didn't like him. Simon believed that he was just like all of Donna's other boyfriends who would just drop her. This is the first time we see Simon being protective and caring of Donna. When Donna and Ringo later break up it is Simon who tells Ringo that "He is just like all the others but Donna is changing because of him" which gets Ringo to go back to Donna.

Simon seeks to protect his older sister, as he doesn't want her to be hurt through life's experiences and have her turn out like their mother. It is he who masterminds a scheme to steal Ringo's clothes and embarrass him in the hopes of driving him back to Donna. Simon and Donna's relationship has become closer from the time Simon arrived in Erinsborough till now.

Simon later on accuses his mother of her mistrust and judgement upon him and his two sisters. Simon speaks his mind and questions his mother about her parenting skills.

Mother


Simon's mother arrives in Erinsborough unexpected for Simon and Donna, whilst Tegan was in on the whole thing, as she was her mothers spy contacting her and giving her information about all the people on Ramsay St. Cass arrives to marry Paul Robinson

 and steal his millions and will do anything for her to plan to work, even if it means putting herself first and hurting her three kids. Cass is not a motherly figure but a woman who competes with Donna, makes Simon feel worthless and embarrass the youngest one of the kids Tegan.

Paul Robinson


Paul keeps reminding Simon that he is just like him but a mini version, after a prank that Simon pulled on Paul. Simon overhearring that Paul would be meeting up with his mother at Lassiters, sabotaged the house doors by superglueing them shut so that Paul was unable to escape the house and also but cutting the phone cord, to cut Paul out of civilisation. Simon later explains to Paul that Cass lets guys walk all over her all the time and doesn't want to see it happen again. Simon later looks up to Paul as a fatherly figure as his father Matt left the family when Simon was a young boy, leading to Simon being independent and being the man of the house, making Paul to show Simon the ropes of life. Most recently Paul caught Simon stealing an ipod. after talking to him he decided not to tell Cassandra. When Cassandra found out through Tegan she went to Paul for advice on how to handle the situation and whether she should be worried about Simon. Paul told her Simon was just a regular teenage boy who was angry.

Protecting Tegan

 due to the alterations made by his mother to Tegan's school dress making it too short to help Tegan seek attention to the boys, leading Simon and Kyle into a fight. The entire situation was triggered off by Cass' ridicule and making Tegan into the school's joke, and her bad parenting skills. Simon defends Tegan and later on tells Cass that he was the one who started to fight, and gives Cass something to think about when he asks why she cant act like a mother towards Tegan.

Rebellious Streak


Cass has become self absorbed as her plans of being with Paul Robinson are slowly slipping out of her grasp, that she has began to take out all her anger to her children. Cass constantly argues and makes Simon feel small and worthless that Simon in the heat of the moment steals an ipod that was left on the counter in Harold’s store, an ipod belonging to Elle. Simon takes the ipod to release the tension he towards his mother, not knowing that Paul has seen his actions. Paul later on calls Simon and asks why he stole the ipod, Simon responding with silence, Paul gives him advice that revenge is best served cold. Cass begins to use her kids to gain revenge on many people in Erinsborough

. Simon begins to be uneasy to his mothers actions and begins to not listen to her elusive suggestions and plot for revenge. The freedman family become short of money and Cass is astonished to have won 20,000 dollars due to a scratchy card which was sold to her by Rebecca Napier

. Cass seeks revenge for Rebecca even though the fake scratchie was meant to be an April Fools joke for Toadie.

Departure and Return


Cass uses Tegan to get revenge on Rebecca, by making Tegan buy alcohol at Charlies, giving Cass the opportunity to sue Rebecca for selling alcohol to minors. Simon begins to get fed up with his mother's evil games and is especially concerned about Tegan. After a deepful chat with his older sister Donna, Simon comes to the conclusion that the best solution is for Tegan and himself to run away and live with their grandmother. About to run off and not tell Donna, Elle persuades them to see Donna before they leave. Donna tries to convince them to stay and move back into No.22 with her, but they decide in the end that they just want to get far away as possible from Cass. Simon and Tegan are last seen hugging big sister Donna in Harolds Store. Soon the Freedmans will be returning and will be even angrier with Cass.
