The La Vera area between Plasencia, Barajas de Gredos and Arenas de San Pedro in the Sierra de Gredos has many "gargantas", beautiful mountain creeks. La Vera has a milder climate than elsewhere in the mountains where the summers are very hot and the high-lying land is usually very cold in winter.
Tourists can find lots of accommodation such as camping, hotels, as well as casas rurales (rural guesthouses).
