 fans also use the gesture to express support for the university and the various athletic teams.

To perform a "Sic 'em Bears," make a bear claw with your right hand and put it high in the air. Shake your bear claw in the air while you scream "Hey." When signaled to do so, bring your bear claw down towards the ground as you yell "Sic 'em." Finally, bring your bear claw back up as you yell "Bears." If you are not yelling at the top of your lungs, you are not doing it correctly.

Sic 'em Bears is used numerous times during Baylor football games, such as third downs, kick offs, or whenever the mascot or drum majors feel inspired. In basketball games, it is used at tip offs, when the opposing team is attempting a free throw, or when the mascot or band leader feel inspired.

Whenever the Alma Mater (That Good Ole Baylor Line) is sung, the bear claw gesture is also used; however, there is no screaming. The bear claw is simply held in the air. When the Baylor University Golden Wave Band

 finishes the song, a full Sic 'em Bears is done. The gesture has been adapted to numerous songs that the band performs (Kashmir, for example).

The Sic 'em Bears originates from the 1960 yell leaders and football games. It wasn't until legendary football coach Grant Teaff
