Shahdara is an eastern suburb of Delhi. It is one of the stations on the line 1 of Delhi Metro. Its nearby areas are Dilshad Garden, Mansarover Park, Dilshad Colony, Tahirpur, Preet Vihar, Anand Vihar, Jagatpuri, Navin Shahdara, Seemapuri, Geeta Colony, Silampur, New Silampur, Welcome Colony, New Seemapuri, Usmanpur, New Usmanpur, Yamuna Vihar and Bhajanpura. Shahdara is also divided in two parts Purana Shahdara (Old Shahdara) and Navin Shahdara (New Shahdara). Nathu Colony, Kabir Nagar, Jhilmil Colony, Rohtash Nagar, Babarpur, Ashok Nagar, Maujpur, Ghonda Colony, Subhash Mohalla, Vishwas Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Ram Nagar, Bhaula Nath Nagar, jyoti nagar, Kanti Nagar and Gokulpur are some colonies in Shahdara.

Sometimes people call the whole trans-Yamuna region as Shahdara. Shahdara is one of the suburbs. There is a busy market known as chhota (small) bazar in shahdara. There is also another market in continuation to chhota bazar is bada (big) bazar. Chhota bazar is very famous for day to day stuff, chaat pakauri (salty india snacks), and sweets. Hiralal halwai has the best sweets. If you go there please try it and eat some kachauri (zesty indian puffs with mm mm mmmm). It is a very popular place in Shahdara. Bada bazar is mostly for vegetables, groceries and fruits etc. There is a shop of utensils(bartan) which is more than 40 years old named AGGARWAL BARTAN STORE where you can get any sort of utensils as many quantities. Northern side of chhota bazar is Shahdara Sabzi mandi; it is a huge vegetable market. It is not well managed and smells a lot. But if you need it fresh, you have to step through muddy and smelly street and you get good bargains. In shahdara you can see different level of income people living as a neighbours of each other with no objection.

Vishwas Nagar is another relatively cleaner and good place to stay for poor to middle class families. I have seen many wealthy families too staying in Vishwas Nagar. Vishwas Nagar is famous for its street names. Starting from the main road where the cinema hall (Swarn Cinema), there are 17 streets going east. After 17th street, there is a wider (not wide now) road call "lal batti" - Red Traffic light (because that was the only road with traffic light in early days). After that the street names are after Mahabarat (India Mythology) characters like Yudhister, Bhim, ARjun etc. when that ends it uses National leaders like Nehru, Subhash etc as street names. Fun place to be actually. Nice locality. Newly added CBD (having Cross River Mall, Fun City Mall) and Institutional Area(having CA Institute, MCD Head Office) are Vishwas Nagar's big assets

2. Shahdara (Lahore, Pakistan): Shahdara is suburban part of Lahore. It constitutes Northern Lahore and is situated across the river Ravi. It was named Shahdara, i.e. Royal gate, because it was situated right on the famous Grand Trunk Road (GT Road) that linked Delhi, the then capital of Moghul sultanate, with Afghanistan and also this was Northern gateway of Lahore. Tombs of Moghul emperor Jehangir (a.k.a. Saleem) and her queen Noor Jehan are also in this town. Shahdara was famous for orchards and date palm trees which have almost been vanished because of want of residential land for ever increasing population which is migrating from villages and settling here being a place cheapest and nearest to Lahore. Shahdara is situated on the junction of transport network also (road and railway) linking Lahore with Gujranwala-Gujrat-Jhelum-Rawalpind on one side and Shekhupura-Faisalabad-Sargodha on the other side.
