Background

Real Radio’s joined forces with STV, The Scottish Sun and Arnold Clark in a unique partnership to find the best tracks to come out of Scotland. Over the coming weeks we want your votes on which tracks from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s should be included in Scotland’s Greatest Album.

Each week you will get the chance to pick your favourite tracks from an expert panel list of 15 songs from each decade. You'll be able to vote for your favourite each week. Real Radio's show hosted by Steve McKenna and Paul Harper will be broadcast every Tuesday in October between 8pm and 10pm, then until 11pm you can have your say as we open the phone lines to hear your opinion on which songs and artists can really be called Scotland’s Greatest.

Reception

When the final track listing was revealed on November 3, 2011; there was much speculation over the songs that had been picked. One of the producers behind the album, Kristopher Nimbley used Twitter

However, many other voters who had voted through STV or Real Radio commented on several of the songs that had been picked, including Deacon Blue

Production

The five-part show, which airs at 9pm tonight both on the TV and online, saw viewers ultimately compiling “Scotland’s greatest album” – though given the debate caused, the final decision was never going to please everyone... In the previous four episodes an expert panel shortlisted 15 songs from each decade, starting with the 70s and ending with the 00s. This final episode unveiled ‘Scotland’s Greatest Album’, with the top three tracks from each decade as chosen by the public.

On Hogmany, STV are aiming to produce a programme on the TV channel to show voters and producers how many votes each songs received.
