History

The school was built in 1971, and extensive renovations were done in 1993. One of the highlights of those renovations was the construction of a large library media center, with skylights in the middle of the building. The first principal of the school was Dr. Tassak. , it now contains just grades 7 and 8. The enrollment for the 2009-10 school year was 782 students, virtually evenly split between the two grades.

Campus

The school has a total of 119 rooms. Some of the most important are the school’s library media center, and the three computer labs. The Library Media Center has 19 computers. The Practical Arts room and the Industrial Arts room are also two of the most important rooms in the school. The Practical Arts room has a total of five ovens, a washer and dryer, five microwaves, and six sinks. The sewing side of the Practical Arts room has seventeen working sewing machines for the use of students. There is a large cafeteria in the center of the school that houses four lunches each day. In each lunch wave, about two hundred students gather to eat.
There are a total of five fields on the school’s grounds, including a lacrosse, field hockey, soccer, baseball, and softball field. Each one is used regularly by school and town teams. There are two tennis courts, now used as basketball courts, and two inside facilities used for sports: the gym and multipurpose room.

Curriculum

Schaghticoke offers Math, Science, English, Social Studies, World Language, Reading, Band, Chorus, Industrial Arts, Practical Arts, Gym, Art, Health and Music. For World Languages, Spanish and French are taught.
