The school was originally founded in 1988 in the village of Attard

, just a few metres away from the President's San Anton Palace - hence it was named "San Anton" School.
It was the first Parents' Foundation for Education, the first of its type for Malta. Within a few years this not-for-profit school became so popular that a new premises was built in the L-Imselliet valley, on the outskirts of Mgarr, where today it educates nearly 1000 students aged 4 to 16.
San Anton School also offers a kindergarten as well as a Summer School, the latter of which is open to all children aged 4 to 13, including non San Anton School students.
The school obtains its funding from the school's parents as well as from fund-raising activities. With regards to sports san Anton School now has a FIFA

 approved football pitch and an all-weather IAAF approved running track. It also possesses other sports facilities for practising Futsal, Tennis, Basketball and gymnastics, amongst several other sports. The school also offers after school coaching activities including athletics, football, tennis, multi-sports, and makes the premises available for rent.
