Remarks

  • Sailing was since 1924 on course! The One Design classes turned out to be a success. So was the reduction of classes since 1920. The advice for 1932 was to add a double handed one design to the selection of Olympic classes.
  • The weather conditions of the 1928 races are not documented. Reading from the results, we can assume that on day 2 – 4 there were windy conditions. Hence, the number of retired boats, capsized Dinghies and a broken mast of one of the 8 Metres. Also the official pictures give evidence to support the assumption.
  • That Olympic sailing did not had the status it has now, we can deduct from the fact that since the Sailing at the 1928 Summer Olympics took place at the same time as Cowes week
    Cowes Week
Cowes Week is one of the longest-running regular regattas in the world. With 40 daily races, up to 1,000 boats, and 8,500 competitors ranging from Olympic and world class professionals to weekend sailors, it is the largest sailing regatta of its kind in the world...

many British Metre sailors stayed at home despite the personal effort of the president of the Royal Dutch Yachting Union: P.L. Lucassen.
