- Ryokan, a Zen Buddhist monk (1758-1831) who lived in Niigata, Japan
- Ryokan (Japanese inn), a type of Japanese inn similar to a bed-and-breakfast
- Ryokan, a buddhist monk, Ninsho Ryokan (1217-1303) who was the first Chief Priest of Gokurakuji and a disciple of Eison (1201-1290). He appears in Nichiren Daishonin gosho
