Rotting was formerly signed to United Guttural Records and remained on their roster until the label's demise in 2003. In 2003, The Forgotten was released with artwork by Studio-Sho from Japan

The band disbanded in 2004 due to lack of time and interest by the members. Bassist Jeff went into the wrestling industry under the persona's "Darth Cutthroatus" and "Cold Blooded" Chris Garvin, vocalist Korey started a mailorder company, The Catacombs; retailer of official band merchandise which also owns rights to Rotting's merchandise.

In 2000, the band recorded The Original Christ Crusher with Roger Beaujard of Mortician

. The album is currently unreleased. The track "Stomped to Death" is featured on the reissue of Crushed, released in August of 2007.

In 2009, Mike and Korey formed Burning Caskets as a side-project, which later formulated into a full band. Mike was unable to dedicate time to the group and inevitably departed to form a glam rock band known as "THE MIKE BELFRY PROJECT". Burning Casket's first studio release, "To Burn a False Prophet" dropped in July of 2011.

Rotting's lyrics primarily focus on anti-religion, horror and angst.
