. It features food, area craftspeople, a sanctioned barbecue contest, and nationally known musicians performing bluegrass, blues, Appalachian folk, gospel and other genres of American-based music. The festival is located in downtown Columbia (advertised locally as The District). The area has an eclectic mix of restaurants, shops, art galleries, sporting events, music venues and coffee houses, and Peace Park on the University of Missouri

The flagship festival in 2007 was in celebration of Boone County National Bank’s 150th anniversary, and has continued every fall since. The 5th Annual Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival will be held Friday & Saturday, September 9 and 10, 2011.

BBQ Contest

The Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival features a Kansas City BBQ Society sanctioned contest, with $15,000 in cash prizes to be awarded in 2010. Categories include beef brisket, pork, ribs, chicken and dessert.
