Elected to his first term in November 2006, Senator Calderon is chairman of the influential Elections, Reapportionment and Constitutional Amendments Committee.

The second of two siblings to serve in the state Senate, Senator Ronald S. Calderon is quickly making his own mark on the “upper” house. Elected to his first term in November 2006, Senator Calderon is chairman of the influential Elections, Reapportionment and Constitutional Amendments Committee. In a nod to his leadership skills, Senate President Don Perata picked Senator Calderon for this important position to lead the Senate’s efforts to reform term-limits and redistricting laws, as well as moving the state’s presidential primary from June to February. Senator Calderon also chairs the Select Committee on International Business Trade, in addition to sitting on the Appropriations and Energy, Utilities and Communications committees. Also, Senator Calderon sits on the California Film Commission, joining the likes of Clint Eastwood and Danny DeVito in promoting the Golden State’s film industry.

Senator Calderon was elected to the 30th Senate District after representing many of the same communities during two terms in the state Assembly, where he served as chair of the Banking and Finance Committee and as Assistant Majority Leader. Communities Senator Calderon proudly represents include: Bell, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Cudahy, Huntington Park, La Mirada, Los Angeles, Montebello, Norwalk, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, South El Monte, South Gate, Whittier, East La Mirada, East Los Angeles, Florence-Graham, Hacienda Heights, South Whittier and West Whittier.

Senator Calderon is the second of his family to serve in the Senate and the third to hold a seat in the legislature. His oldest brother, Charles M. Calderon

Charles M. Calderon began his second stint in the California State Assembly in 2006 . He represents the 58th District, which includes the cities of Montebello, California, Pico Rivera, California, Hacienda Heights, California Rowland Heights, California, South San Gabriel, California, South San Jose Hills, California, Valinda, California and...
, was elected to the Senate in 1990 and was termed out in 1998. Before his tenure in the Senate, Charles served in the state Assembly from 1982 to 1990 and was re-elected in 2006. Middle brother Thomas M. Calderon also served in the Assembly from 1998 to 2002.

Senator Calderon attended Montebello High School, graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and attended Western State University of Law.

Before his election to state office Senator Calderon served as a manager in the manufacturing industry and as a mortgage banker and a real estate agent. His experience in financial affairs along with his ownership of a small sales marking firm reflects his on going interest in small business and a vibrant local economy.

Senator Calderon lives in Montebello with Ana, his wife of 24 years, and their two children Jessica and Zachary Calderon.
