There are two versions of the song. The first is one where the beginning features the opening chord accompanied by the drum beat to the song. This is also the version featured in the music video

 and on the End of The Century album. It also has a slightly different tune. The one recorded for the "Rock 'n' Roll High School" soundtrack, which is the original, features the drum beat first with Joey saying the eventual line "Rock, Rock, Rock, Rock, Rock 'n' Roll High School" and the original lyrics. This is also the version they usually performed live. The only time the Spector produced version was played was on The Sha Na Na Show
