Shaw began his playing career at Blackpool F.C.

As well as playing soccer, Shaw is the Director of Education for NY Soccer Central, a youth development program based in Central New York, which he started in 2003. Additionally, Shaw also provides game analysis for Time Warner Cable Sports, commentating on televised College soccer.
