universe, Remans are natives of the planet Remus. They were first introduced in the movie Star Trek Nemesis and were also shown in several episodes of Star Trek Enterprise. In the script of Star Trek: Nemesis, the design for the Reman makeup is intended to resemble that of Count Orlok

 brought the tenets of logic to the Vulcan people. A small group of Vulcans disagreed with Surak's teachings and left Vulcan to eventually settle on the planets Romulus and Remus. It is suggested, though never explicitly stated, that the Remans are also descended from Vulcans like the Romulans. The three species share many similar features such as pointed ears, humanoid appearance, and limited telepathic abilities. It is also possible, however, that the Remans were indigenous to Remus. This possibility is supported by the fact that the Reman written language is at least partially pictographic and the Romulan written language does not appear to be.

In contrast to Romulus, which is essentially Earth-like, Remus is tidally locked

 with its star and is habitable only on the dark side. Because of this, the Remans have adapted to low-light conditions and have developed very pale white skin similar to cave fish. Remus is used primarily by the Romulan Star Empire for its dilithium

 deposits with the Remans being used as slave laborers in the mines.

In addition to slave labor, the Remans were also used as shock troops
