Range-extended vehicle

A range-extended vehicle (REV) is a plug-in hybrid series hybrid with a small internal combustion engine or other secondary source connected to a generator to resupply the batteries and allow farther driving of the vehicle when the batteries become low.
Range-extended vehicles have the efficiency of an electric drive-train while allowing for multi-hundred mile ranges using a small battery pack. This avoids the "range anxiety" that can be associated with battery electric vehicle driving.
Unless the secondary source is fueled by hydrogen or another zero emission source, REVs are not considered Zero-emissions vehicles.
