In the early 1990s he introduced his son Armaan Kohli in the multi-starrer action film Virodhi (1992) which was a flop. He directed his son again in Aulad Ke Dushman (1993) and Qahar (1997) which also failed to launch his son's career. After a hiatus he returned in 2002 and relaunched his son in another multi-starrer film in the style of his classic 1970s films Nagin and Jaani Dushman titled Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani
. However when released it was a box office disaster and was heavily criticised. As well as copying his own 1970s films, the film copied scenes from The Matrix
, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Mission: Impossible II
and The Mummy
. He has not directed any film since 2002.
Kohli is married to Nishi, a Punjabi actress of yesteryears and lives in Union Park, Chembur
