Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming less than One Hour)
Encyclopedia
The Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program (for Programming Less Than One Hour) is a Creative Arts Emmy Award which is given annually to an animated series which is judged to have been the best. Each series is allowed to submit one episode, and a special.
The Simpsons
has won the most Emmys for Animated TV Series with 10 (out of 17 nominations), followed by the various Garfield
specials which have won a combined four (out of 12 nominations). Though Fox
could also submit episodes from The Simpsons or other series for consideration in the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series
category, rules stipulate that a single program cannot be submitted in more than one category.
For many of the Primetime Emmy Award categories, the rules specifically say that animated programs can not be nominated, although some of the Creative arts categories do allow animated programs to be submitted for consideration. However, there have occasionally been programs submitted in the Primetime categories. For example, The Simpsons
submitted the episodes "A Streetcar Named Marge
" and "Mr. Plow
" in the "Outstanding Comedy Series
" category in 1993. However, they were not nominated.
