PrimeTel is a private Cypriot
telecommunications carrier. Through their partnership with Electricity Authority of Cyprus
(EAC), they have built their own fiber-optic network and ADSL2+ platform. PrimeTel has entered Cypriot retail market in 2006 with a triple-play Internet, IPTV and Telephony offering under PrimeHome brand.
Since November 2007, NOVA Cyprus
is also available via PrimeTV IPTV service of PrimeTel
.
In June 2011 PrimeTel announced launch of its submarine fiber cable landing station in Geroskipou and that Reliance Globalcom had terminated its 2.7 terabit HAWK submarine cable system into it . This makes PrimeTel the first private operator with such facilities, which traditionally have been a monopoly of CYTA
.
As of May 2011, PrimeTel launched the first MVNO in Cyprus
making it the 3rd cellphone operator on the island. It uses the network of the partially state-owned CYTA
and is working under the prefix 95.
