The album received mixed responses from critics: some praised the album's fusion of hard rock songs like "Damage Control" and softer, melodic tunes like "Heavensent

Commercially, Present did not perform as well as its predecessor, selling only 50,000 copies and achieving Gold certification. Nonetheless, Killing Heidi's second studio album has often been described as a firm favourite among fans.

Two singles were released from Present: "Heavensent" in December 2001 (charting at number twenty-eight) and "Outside of Me
Outside of Me
"Outside of Me" is the sixth single by Australian band Killing Heidi. It is the second and final single released from their second album Present...

" in 2002 (peaked at number twelve). A third album track, "Ammyl (Say What You Wanna Say)", was released to radio in 2003 but was never sold as a commercial single.

Also noteworthy are the uses of instrumental interludes between tracks on Present, known as "Heidiludes". These tracks were short, featuring soft instruments and synths against Ella's distant backing vocals.

It was also released with a limited edition disc. The artwork was the same, except the package was fold out cardboard.

Released as the first single in 2001, the song was very highly anticipated. Although highly anticipated, the song failed to live up to expectation and peaked at #28 in Australia. It received heavy promotion, with a music video, heavy airplay, and live performances being used to promote. It was certified Gold in Australia

Released almost a year after its preceeder, the song was a modest hit, peaking at #12 in Australia. It was thought that if the single was a flop, the second album would be scrapped. two versions of the CD Single were released, with slightly different artwork. Although debuting and peaking at #12, the song failed to maintain sales, and only spent 6 weeks inside Australia's top 50, with its preceeder spending 7. It was certified Gold in Australia.
  • "Ammyll"
The third single was released to radio, and didn't gain much attention. It was thought that a Physical Release was planned, but due to the single not getting substantial airplay, this was scrapped.

Charts

Present debuted on the ARIA Albums Chart at #12 on 31 October 2002. It then fell relatively quickly and spent a total of 8 weeks in the chart
