Dollard became known as a Hollywood conservative in the mid-90s, and is now known as a conservative filmmaker, blogger, and pundit.

. The project began as a 2-4 week quickie documentary, but eventually grew to include a 7-month stay in Iraq with a Marine unit and over 200 hours of footage. The resulting documentary, Young Americans, was never completed, but nearly an hour of footage has been released on the Internet and clips have been shown on television.

Dollard has argued that there were more important reasons for the Iraq war other than Weapons of Mass Destruction
