There are actually three related, but not mutually intelligible, languages, each with a number of dialects, which called themselves "Palawano" (Spanish, from the endonym Palawan).

The three Palawano languages share the island with several other languages which are not part of the Palawan language cluster, though they share a fair amount of vocabulary. These languages are the Kalamian language
